President Van Rompuy visits the College of Europe

The President of the European Council, Mr. Herman Van Rompuy, held a keynote speech on ‘Europe's Role and Place in the World’ to the College of Europe students, professors, staff and invited guests. The event was organised by the College of Europe in Bruges on 25 February 2010.

The President was welcomed by Mr. Iñigo Mendez de Vigo, President of the Administrative Board of the College of Europe, Mr. Paul Breyne, Governor of the Province of West-Flanders and Mr. Paul Demaret, Rector of the College of Europe.

In his speech, he outlined the impact of a new era of globalisation and the possible reactions by the European Union and the European Council in particular. According to Van Rompuy, the world is entering a new phase of political globalisation – after a purely economic process – in which powers are shifting and people are afraid about losing welfare...

Activities

2nd EU terminology seminar for Russian delegates

A group of 26 English teachers at the European Studies Institute of the State University in Moscow (MGIMO) participated in a seminar on EU terminology organised by the Development Office from 29 January till 5 February.

Conference on regulation and competition policy for development

In the framework of a Master’s programme on regulation and competition at the University of Jordan, the Development Office co-organised a high-level conference on 27-28 January 2010.

Introductory Seminar on International Humanitarian Law

In the light of the most recent developments of the Common Security and Defence Policy, the Development Office and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) organised an introductory seminar on International Humanitarian Law.
