2010 –Development Office back on track

The end of the year is approaching – a good moment to look back at the past months and to take a glimpse at what the future might bring. For the Development Office, 2010 has been a very special and important year. While 2009 was a turning point in the history of our department, the past year has been the beginning of a new ‘era’: we have experienced the arrival of new colleagues, the change of the internal structure and the launch of projects as well as new challenges, ideas and enthusiasm.
While the first half of 2010 has been earmarked by the design of a new internal structure under the guidance of the new management team, the second half has seen the arrival of new Project Managers and Interns. Regarding the scope of our work, we have not only continued providing services to the EU institutions in a variety of areas such as legal analysis of EU, digital inclusion or energy policy, ...

ACTIVITIES

EU Negotiations course: new record number of participants

From 22 to 26 November, the Development Office organised the Advanced Training Course ‘EU Negotiations in Practice’. In this hands-on workshop, professionals learn the principles and practice of EU decision-making.

A close eye on EU competition law

In October, three interactive workshops on EU competition policy were organised in Stockholm, Rome and Brussels.

West Flemish students learn more about the EU

On 18 and 19 November, experts from the College of Europe provided workshops on social Europe and careers at EU institutions for High Schools in West Flanders.

Southeast Europe and the EU – Leadership Development Programme: fifth year!

It has now become a tradition: while the College of Europe was welcoming its first students in early September, the Development Office and its partners were meeting the 30 young professionals, coming mainly from the Western Balkans, selected for the 2010/2011 ‘Southeast Europe and the EU – Leadership Development Programme’ (LDP).

Announcements

New learning programme in partnership with UNU-CRIS and Asian Development Bank

The Development Office in cooperation with the United Nations University –Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS) will establish a partnership with the Asian Development Bank-GMS-Phnom Penh Plan for Development Management for the organisation of a learning programme in 2011.

New challenges in European Neighbourhood Policy - Preparing staff for EU – ENP related jobs

The College of Europe – Development Office (Bruges in cooperation with Natolin) was successfully awarded the EU-funded pilot project “Preparing staff for EU – ENP related jobs”.

New edition of academic journal

The 40th edition of the ‘Collegium’, the College of Europe's academic journal, is now available online.

Publication on e-Inclusion

‘The Economic Impact of Digital Technologies – Measuring Inclusion and Diffusion in Europe’ is the title of a publication which will soon be available at Edward Elgar Publishing. The book has been edited by Prof. Paolo Guerrieri, Prof. Sara Bentivegna and Prof. Valentina Meliciani on behalf of the College of Europe.
