» Balkans Beyond Borders - a success story of the College’s Leadership Development Programme!

The Development Office of the College of Europe is proud to announce that the 2nd Prize of the European Charlemagne Youth Prize 2011 has been awarded to the Balkans Beyond Borders project, an initiative which started with the “Southeast Europe and the EU – Leadership Development Programme ” (LDP), a joint cooperation between the College of Europe, the European Fund for the Balkans and the TRANSFUSE Association.

Each year since 2006, 30 highly motivated young professionals, coming mainly from the Western Balkans, are selected to take part in the 10-month programme.

The initial idea of the project was developed during the LDP two-week Summer Academy in 2009 and was further extended in 2010, when Alumni from 3 different LDP generations and 5 different countries decided to establish a Greek-based NGO in order to continue the project. Konstantinos Ntantinos (Greece), Adela Demetja (Albania), Igor De Gregorio (Italy), Vera Krikoni (Greece), Vaso Maltasoglou (Greece), Ntina Karydi (Greece), Monica Bucurenciu (Romania), Aber Babic (Bosnia & Herzegovina) and Manuela Brunero (Italy) are all working or finishing their masters studies, and are dedicating their time to develop this regional cooperation project.

Balkans Beyond Borders (BBB) became a non-profit organization with the purpose of promoting intercultural dialogue and innovative means of learning through film-making. BBB's flagship initiative is the organisation of an annual short-film festival having a different theme each year and taking place in different Balkan cities.
