Simon Duke

Simon Duke (UK/NZ) is Professor at the European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA) in Maastricht, Netherlands.

He was educated at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth (B.Sc. Econ), and completed his graduate work at Oxford University (M. Phil and D.Phil). He worked briefly for Thames Television and was then a research fellow at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. He has held academic positions at Ohio State University, Pennsylvania State University and the Central European University in Budapest, where he was head of the International Relations and European Studies programme.

Simon Duke is the author of several monographs on European and transatlantic foreign and security issues, including The Elusive Quest for European Security: From EDC to CFSP (Macmillan/St Antony’s, 2000), The EU and Crisis Management: Development and Prospects (EIPA, 2002) and Beyond the Chapter: Enlargement Challenges for CFSP and ESDP (EIPA, 2003). He has published on similar themes in numerous academic journals. He also serves as adjunct faculty at the Federal Executive Institute in Charlottesville Virginia and is co-Executive Editor of the Journal of European Integration.

His fields of interest include in particular security aspects of the EU's external relations, the Common Foreign and Security Policy, diplomatic practice as well as EU institutions and governance in external relations.
